- Plant of the month: Campanula
Campanula
With its diverse flower colours, growth forms and flowering periods, the Campanula is a great addition to any garden. Whether you are looking for a plant for colourful borders, hanging baskets, rock gardens or ground covers, there is always a Campanula variety to suit a need. It is also an evergreen plant, so perfect for a year-round green garden.
Enjoy the campanula all year round
Campanulas bloom several times a year, for weeks at a time. As the plant blooms for long and repeatedly, bees are assured of food from March to October. In winter, the campanula will keep its leaves and therefore belongs to a hardy species.
Bellflowers
The flowers are also known as bellflowers. They owe this name to the bell shape. The flowers bloom in many different colours, including white, pink, purple and blue.
Versatile Campanula
With over 300 different varieties, the campanula offers a wide range of colour shades, flower shapes, growth forms and flowering periods. You can plant the campanula in many different ways in the garden as well as in patio or balcony pots. For instance, it can be planted as a border plant, but it is also possible to plant them in small groups. In hanging pots and in garden borders, the playful character of this plant is best shown.
Care
The campanula is an easy plant and grows in any soil type, but prefers calcareous soil. The plant grows best in sun or semi-shade. The campanula's well-known bells come out in the flowering period from June to August. The plant can withstand drought reasonably well, but during the flowering period you should water it twice a week. We also recommend removing the spent flowers.
