Potted rose
Roses have been cultivated for at least 500 years, but the potted rose is a relatively new in addition to the range. What is unique about this flowering plant is that the buds, flowers and leaves are in proportion with one another. It truly is a mini copy of a big rose bush. We would like to give you some more background information about this romantic plant and how you can best display it in your store.
The story behind the potted rose
The potted rose represents love, passion, unity and friendship. People associate roses most immediately with cut flowers, but potted roses offer the same romantic mood and emotion. Roses originate from the northern hemisphere, particularly China and Europe. The name ‘rose’ is derived from the Celtic word ‘rhodd’, which means ‘red’. Many roses originally had red flowers. However, breeders have managed to produce all sorts of other colours. Ultimately this is also resulted in the potted rose - a perfect miniature with the proportions of the large bush - with colours such as pink, orange, yellow and white.

Colours and shapes
The potted rose has fabulous flowers, magnificent colours and the ‘Sleeping Beauty factor’. The potted rose has all the looks and quality of its big sister, but in an easily manageable living room, balcony or patio format. The wide range of colours, flower sizes and dimensions make it a popular houseplant.
Sales and display tips for Potted rose
It is easy to respond to special days with potted roses: red for Valentine’s Day, yellow for Easter, orange for autumn, white for December. Placing them in a pot that emphasises the seasonal mood strengthens the urge to buy. Preferably position the trays so that customers can look down on the flowers; that is the most attractive angle for potted roses. And leave potted roses in their sleeve as much as possible in store. Not only does the sleeve protect the leaves and flowers, but it also makes the plant easier to pick up and wrap because of the thorns.

Caring for pot rose
- • Indoors, the plant prefers a light spot with some fresh air.
- • The soil should not dry out, so water regularly.
- • It is a good idea to give plant food or special rose food once every three weeks to ensure rich flowering. That will encourage the potted rose to keep producing new buds.
- • Once it has finished flowering, the potted rose can be pruned back to about 5 cm above the soil. The plant will then regrow after approximately two months.
